Mi primer viaje a España / My first trip to Spain

Un poco antes de Navidad dejamos la nieve en Toronto y me llevé mi corte de pelo a España, donde era invierno como aquí, pero no había nieve. Aun así hacía frío y suerte tuvimos que la única maleta que no se extravió fue la que llevaba los abrigos.

A little bit before Christmas we left the snow behind us in Toronto and I took my haircut to Spain, where it was winter time like here, but there was no snow. In any case it was cold and we were lucky that the only suitcase that did not get lost was the one with our coats.

Me hizo ilusión rencontrarme con los abuelos, a los que no había visto en casi un año y medio. Lo que no me esperaba era que Pre fuera tan grande. Según entramos por la puerta se me vino encima y ya sé que quería jugar conmigo, pero me metió el miedo en el cuerpo. Durante un par de días no me gustaba nada cuando se acercaba, pero una semana después creo que era él el que quería perderme de vista. Entre medias pasamos buenos ratos jugando juntos.

I was very happy to meet Grandpa Pablo and Grandma Nieves again after not having seen them in almost one year and a half. What I did not expect was Pre to be so big. As soon as we crossed the door he jumped on me and even though I knew he wanted to play with me, he gave me a big scare. During a couple of days I did not like when he came around me, but one week later I think it was him who wanted to lose sight of me. In between we had a great time playing together.

También apareció por allí la prima Katia, aunque no me enteré bien cómo, ya que por la idea que me había hecho Perú no está cerca de España. Se lo pasaba tan bien con nosotros que se decidió a venir de viaje al norte, cuando nos fuimos a visitar a la familia de papá.

Cousin Katia showed up over there too, although I don’t know well how that happened, as my understanding is that Peru is not close to Spain. She liked so much being with us that she decided to come along in our trip to the North when we went to visit daddy’s family.

Fuimos a Laguardia, donde celebramos la Navidad y me regalaron un chu-chu tren que iba a juego con el Lego de Pocoyó que me había comprado mamá. De allí fuimos a Osorno y a Valladolid, donde descubrí que tengo más primos de los que imaginaba. Avril y yo estábamos un poco asustados  con tanta gente, pero al final, como siempre, lo pasamos bien entre risas y achuchones.

We went to Laguardia, where we celebrated Christmas and I received a chu-chu train, which matched with the Pocoyo Lego set mommy had bought me. From there we went to Osorno and Valladolid, where I discovered that I had more cousins than I had imagined. Avril and I were a bit intimidated with so many people, but in the end, as always, we had a good time among laughs and cuddles.

Después de la gira familiar, volvimos a Aranjuez, a la casa de los abuelos y pasamos unos días tranquilos antes de volver a Canadá. Desde España habíamos oído hablar de que había habido una tormenta de hielo, pero no nos imaginábamos como era hasta que llegamos y nos encontramos la casa casi bloqueada por la nieve, los árboles rotos con las ramas en el suelo, y para colmo, no teníamos calefacción.

After the family tour, we went back to Aranjuez, to grandpas’ home and we spent a few quiet days before returning to Canada. From Spain we had heard about the ice storm in Toronto, but we could not picture how it was until we arrived and found the house surrounded by snow, broken trees with the branches on the ground, and on top of it, the heating was not working.

Acabamos durmiendo en un hotel un par de días hasta que lo arreglaron y nos costó bastante más coger la rutina del invierno, y aún hoy no nos hemos desecho de la pista de hielo del acceso al garaje.

We ended up sleeping in a hotel for a couple of days until they fixed the heating and it took a bit longer than that to get in sync with the winter routine, and even today we still have a skating rink in the driveway.  

El día después de volver era el primero en mi nueva guardería, el Busy Bee, que es a la que va Avril, pero que yo sólo conocía de paso. Al principio echaba de menos la tranquilidad casi celestial del Kids & Co pero pronto me acostumbré y la verdad es que ahora me lo paso muy bien.

The day after our return it was my first at my new daycare, Busy Bee, which is the same one Avril goes to, but I only knew it from visits. In the beginning I missed the heavenly peace from Kids & Co but I got used to it soon and the truth is that I have a lot of fun now.

El invierno ha seguido golpeándonos de manera impenitente con nevadas y mucho frío, lo que nos ha dejado pocas oportunidades para salir a la calle, y cuando lo hemos intentado, como  este día que fuimos al festival de invierno de Richmond Hill, no lo pasé muy bien.

The winter has kept hitting us impenitently with lots of snow and lots of cold, which has given us very few chances to go out, and when we have attempted to do it, like the day went to the Richmond Hill winter festival, I did not have a good time.

Pero el tema del que todo el mundo estaba pendiente y que por fin me alegro de haber dejado a un lado es el que tiene que ver con mis habilidades motrices. Quede aquí constancia de que ya puedo caminar.

But the matter everyone was watching for and I’m glad to have finally left behind is the one related to my gross motor skills. I leave here proof that I can walk now.
