Un coche más grande / A bigger car

Ahora que mi presencia es más evidente papá y mamá están empezando a organizarse para mi llegada: clasificando ropa, reestructurando el dormitorio, haciendo sitio en los cajones…, e incluso Avril, aunque hace como que no se entera, está preparándose para tener un hermano pequeño.

Now that my presence is more evident daddy and mommy have started to get organized for my arrival: sorting out clothes, restructuring the bedroom, making room in the drawers ..., and even Avril, who makes as though she does not know, is getting ready to have a little brother.

Pero donde se han portado de verdad es comprando un coche más grande, bueno una furgoneta. Sé que no les hacía gracia pero nos va a venir muy bien a Avril y a mí para ver DVDs, para llevar a los abuelos, para llevar el cochecito, y lo que haga falta.

But where they have hit the mark is buying a bigger car, or better said a van. I know it was not their favourite car, but it will come handy for Avril and I to watch DVDs, to fit in our grandparents, to carry the stroller, and whatever else we need carry.

Y una vez que lo ha probado, mamá dice que conducir una furgoneta es mejor de lo que pensaba. Y no es la única.

And once mommy has given it a try, she says that driving a van is better than she thought. And she is not the only one.

¡Es un niño! / It is a boy!

Hace un par de semanas papá y mamá fueron al hospital para ver qué tal iban las cosas aquí dentro y una señora se ha dedicado a darme revolcones empujando la barriga de mamá. No sé que hacía, pero yo estaba ahí tumbado y cuando me he querido dar cuenta estaba boca abajo, y luego patas arriba, y tumbado otra vez. Y todo para poder ver si tenía o no tenía. Pues sí, sí tengo: ¡soy un niño!

A couple of Weeks ago daddy and mommy went to the hospital to check how things were going in here and a lady has been rolling me around pushing against mommy’s belly. I don’t know what she was doing, but I was lying comfortably and in the blink of an eye I was upside down, and then legs up, and then lying again. And everything was to see whether I had them or not. Well yes, I do: I am a boy!

Me sacaron unas cuantas fotos pero no sabían cómo me llamaba, por lo que tuve que encontrar una manera de decírselo. Yo creo que me entendieron mal, y desde entonces hasta la semana pasada me llamaban de otra manera. Entonces papá escuchó un programa de radio en el que decían que el 54% de los padres se arrepienten del nombre de sus hijos 10 años después de nacer.

They took several pictures of me but they did not know what my name was, and I had to find a way to let them know. I think they misunderstood me, and since then until last week they were calling me something different. Then daddy listened to a radio show in which they said that 54% of parents regret the names they choose for their children 10 years after they are born.

Eso les hizo pensar, me volvieron a preguntar y esta vez nos aclaramos. Me llamo Diego, y bien contento que estoy con mi nombre.

That made them think, they asked me again and this time they got it right. My name is Diego and I’m very happy with it.

Bienvenido al mundo de Diego / Welcome to Diego’s world

Hola, me llamo Diego y estoy a punto de comenzar mi historia. Aún estoy en la barriga de mamá, pero estoy intentando averiguar cómo salir de ella. Como soy pequeñito y por ahora no tengo buena memoria, papá me ha convencido para empezar a escribir mi blog, para que cuando sea mayor tenga recuerdos de mi infancia y para que todos vosotros que no estáis cerca podáis saber cómo soy.

Hi, my name is Diego and my history is about to start. I am still in mommy’s tummy trying to figure out how to get out if it. Because I am very little and I don’t have very good memory, daddy has convinced me to start writing a blog, so that I have childhood memories when I grow up and all of you who are far away can get to know me.

En estos momentos a mí me parece una complicación pero papá y mamá, y mi hermana mayor Avril, que dice que ya tiene un par de años de experiencia, han dicho que me ayudarán. No sé muy bien a qué me estoy comprometiendo, pero aprenderé de ellos e intentaré hacerlo lo mejor posible.

Right now I think it is a complication but daddy and mommy, and my big sister Avril, who says she has a couple of years of experience, have promised to help out. I don’t know well what I’m signing up for, but I will learn from them and I’ll try to do my best.
